HERMAN GOERNER

Goerner was a very strong circus man too. The picture above show him wrestling an elephant while lifting two men above his head, while lifting a child with one arm and deadlifting over 800 pounds at the same time.

Goerner trained for his circus shows an average of 4-5 days a week. Each workout session would last about 2 hours when training indoors and 3-4 hours outdoors. His training would very often, and then he was tired, he wouldn’t train at all.

A kettlebell which he had been using since he was 10, was Goerner’s main training tool.

When he was 14 he could swing a 100 pounds kettlebell.

He used to do every kind of exercise with his kettlebells, often without resting.

Kettlebells gave him a stunning strength in his grip.

His mottos were:

Train frequently, train according to your mood, do not train until muscular collapse, progressive loading, vary exercises and keep reps low.

Goerner believed that a mixed diet was the best for a strong man, but with an emphasis on pork and beef German sausages or würstels.

He ate potatoes too. He also liked walnuts and fruit, especially apples, oranges and other citrus fruits.
